Photo Essay: A trip to the ol’ ballpark

By: Scott | August 27th, 2007

In honor of the blog, I lugged my pocket-sized Sony to the stadium on Saturday afternoon to capture some of the sights at the match. I didn’t go overboard with the number of images, but they are enough to give people a good idea of how things are at Argentinos matches.

One important note: the fact that the stadium and crowd are safe enough to take a digital camera without concern of having it stolen is something that should not be overlooked.

If this post is well-received, I will make more in the future.

Gavilán Street Nestled in the lazy streets of La Paternal neighborhood, Diego Armando Maradona stadium is not much to behold from the outside and can be missed if one is not looking for it. Still, the quaintness is nice.

Graffiti The AAAJ inscription (Asociación Atletico Argentinos Juniors) is one of the many graffiti markings on the stadium’s walls.

Chorizos There is no doubt as to the pregame dining options. Chorizos for everyone.

Independiente pregame One section of Independiente fans 45 minutes or so before the match started.

Independiente warmups The same section after the team has taken the field.

Argentinos banner Argentinos fans attempting to hide their eyes from what is about to come…

Handshakes And the teams have taken the field. Strangely, the disparity in talent is not readily apparent.

Bright lights! OOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at the flares!!! Ain’t they pretty??? (Special mention of Navarro keeping his distance and generally being concerned for his well-being)

Hey Scott, this is really good, funny and easy to read. I can get a feel of being at the stadium on those pictures.
    Good job.

Scott, to put in a youtube vid just cut and paste the link right next to “Embed” to the right of the video (or below for dailymotion) and voila, it’s in.

To get the pics to lineup I’m probably not the person to ask - it took me weeks to figure it out and I still haven’t really. Using flickr, imageshack, etc is probably the easiest way to go and then just paste the link. Hope it helps, probably doesn’t.

Thanks for those — it’s always a pleasure to see the fan’s view from other countries. Keep ‘em coming!

That’s a really good idea. I especially like the first few of the neighbourhood.
