Remember us? Well, we remember you.

Barney

We’re back after a lolng layoff.  Nothing happened while you were all out living your lives.  Congratulations on any promotions, engagements, births, etc.  Argentinos Juniors fell HARD again Estudiantes de La Plata two weeks ago…3-0.  Yeah, I sort of went into hiding  Tonight brings Racing Club de Avellaneda to La Paternal, and nothing is guaranteed.  I have no idea what to make of this team or Argentine soccer in general at this point.  Racing has very little talent, excepting Cristian Pellerano and Facundo Sava, according to my eye.   Still, they have performed quite well to separate themselves from the relegation area over the past few weeks.

Tidbits from the international layoff:

  • Andrés Scotti was the only member of the squad to see action for his national team.  Argentina, evidently, believes that it has no use for the services of the likes of Roberto Battión.  Who would have guessed.  Of course, Scotti had sat out the past couple of matches for Argentinos due to an injury, and is now doubtful for this match.  Kids, choose club over country.  I didn’t see any of the Uruguay matches, because I was protesting.  Why, pray tell, would I protest Uruguya matches?  Well…
  • They left Alvaro Pereira off the squad.  I would post the list of midfielders who took the field and did nothing for the Banda Oriental, but I might as well post a list of 13th century governors of Hungary, because no one can identify either.  A disgrace.  And the fútbol gods punished Uruguay by having them lose to Paraguay (which is not an embarrassment.  Good, let that be a lesson.  Put him on the squad, qualify, and then let the world enjoy in his works.
  • Sergio Escudero is suspended for two matches, which means a replacement for left back must be found.  The last time this happened against Independiente, Caruso plugged our beloved Pereira back there, rendering him irrelevant for 90 minutes.  So, who else is there….Ariel Seltzer.  Quick story.  I HATE Seltzer.  I mean, I am sure he is a nice enough guy, but the first match I ever watched live, back before I was intimately familiar with the players and their qualities, after ten minutes I asked Martin “Who is that disgrace of a left back?” “Ariel Seltzer” “I guarantee he will be the cause of a goal for the other team.”  And ten minutes later he did help Huracán score a goal by not understanding that his body is an essential thing to keep between the other team and the goal.  I hate him.  He may be the reason that the Bicho does not win…we shall have to wait and see.

Lineup:

Navarro; Barzola, Sabia, Carruzzo, Seltzer; Cabrera, Battion, Peñalba, Pereira; Delorte, Hauche.

Where are you, Scott. The team, and (more importantly) the english-speaking hincha, needs you. It’s read your blog or learn the Castellano. Can’t do both.
